  3. 5 Organizations that Provide Grants for Indian NGOs

Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) are known to have many initiatives which would often provide aid to the underprivileged people residing in developing countries. Thus, it has been a well-known fact to many that in order to achieve the proposals they have set-out for the organization, monetary support is needed. India, being a country with a large NGO population, is in constant need of grants. The proportion of NGOs to citizens is 1 NGO out of 600 citizens in India (Mahapatra, 2014). That is a lot especially considering the country’s 1.2 billion population. Keep reading to learn more about the following grants to Indian NGOs.

1.    United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF)
UNDEF is seeking for proposals from organizations like NGOs who promote human rights and promote the participation of groups in democratic processes. Additionally, this particular organization also seeks to provide aid to organizations who will be working in their own local community – something many Indian NGOs do.

2.    United Nations Women
In some parts of India, women are still treated like second class citizens as compared to their male counterparts. A portion of women are expected to be submissive to their husband, even to the abusive ones in some cases. UN Women supports organizations who are against gender discrimination, fight against violence against women, and support organizations led by women – all of which Indian NGOs can avail of. Successful organizations of this can will receive grants amounting to USD 150,000 up to USD 1 million.

3.    Swades Foundation
Swades Foundation is a foundation in India which value the youth and the education they are to receive. This organization has been providing funds for NGOs in India amounting to INR 25 lakhs to INR 75 lakhs. They offer these grants to organizations who are able to craft proposals that would successfully aid the underprivileged youth in many rural communities. Alongside that, some NGOs have been acquiring grants from Swades Foundation for training teachers and school staff to improve the quality of education in many areas.

4.    P4G – Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030
As it is stated in their name, P4G encourages public-private partnerships in creating a more sustainable environment. They offer grants amounting to as high as USD 100,000 for partnerships between organizations who address issues like the lack of access to clean water, hunger, and pollution.

5.    British Council
The British Council in India sees the nee to strengthen opportunities for many Indians who did not gain access to quality education. They provide grants ranging from EUR 250,000 up to EUR 400,000 for NGOs who are able to teach innovative strategies and alternatives for underprivileged people. It is expected that with the grant money, NGOs will be conducting trainings and seminars educating people and teaching them skills to be able to have a higher standard of living.
The rise of NGOs in India has brought about many opportunities to underprivileged Indians. Many communities have been aided and are being maintained up to this day. Thus, alongside the good things many NGOs can bring, the rise of competition is also present. Since many NGOs have been present over the past several years, more and more of these NGOs also apply for various grants.

Seeking for a Non-Governmental Organization list can be helpful for any NGO. This will help you look at your strengths and weaknesses as an organization and improve on them through the examples other NGOs have already set or experienced. Additionally, this can also give your NGOs ideas on what other organizations to partner with for the project proposals and initiatives you have.
